Mar del Plata

“La ciudad feliz” (the happy city), as Mar del Plata is called is a big and famous city by the Atlantic Ocean. It was founded by Patricio Peralta Ramos more than a century ago.

Although it was an industrial center in the beginning, it became the favorite seaside leisure place for the upper class in Mar del Plata during the time called the “belle époque” around 1920-1930.The most distinguished and wealthy Argentinean families used to spend their holidays in Mar del Plata from December to March. Their mansions, inspired by French or British style palaces mainly stood in a neighborhood called “Los Troncos”. Many of these sumptuous mansions have developed into present museums, schools, or simply “club houses” of magnificent and modern summer resorts. At present, many of these facilities house very high quality restaurants.
